My name is Douglas Donaldson, the director of Automated Truck Curtain Systems, trading as Ramp Tech.

Ramp Tech is an R and D workshop operating in a small country town called Iona, in East Gippsland Victoria. We are about one hour from Melbourne.

During the development of The Ramp Tech Truck Curtain system we have produced 6 vehicles. These vehicles are operating throughout Australia.

Description of the operation of Ramp Techs Buckle Free, Load Rated, Truck Curtain System:
When the driver closes the truck curtain, the truck curtain track slides 100 mm sidewards which lifts the truck curtain track up a series of ramps by 40 mm. This make the truck curtain drum tight. When the driver opens the truck curtain the track slides 100 mm in the opposite direction, lowering the truck curtain track down a series of ramps. This making the truck curtain very loose and easy to open.

It takes seconds to open and close the truck curtains rather than minutes.

The drum tight truck curtains are more aerodynamic, thus saving fuel.

There are no buckles to catch onto anything. This also reduces the width of the vehicle by 38mm

We currently have all tooling and stock to produce more buckle free load rated curtain sided vehicles.

Included in the sale of the business is:
All stock, included Aluminium extrusions, pelmet, laser cut ramps and 24 volt actuators.
An Isuzu 8 pallet truck with the Buckle Free Load Rated Truck Curtain System.

Production is scalable, and would be more suited to a larger manufacturing facility.

The ideal buyer for this business would be a person or entity that is looking for an opportunity to become the leading manufacturer of curtain sided trucks and trailers in Australia, New Zealand and possibly the world. This system offers a huge competitive advantage for a truck body builder to win market share.

Ultimately this product will improve the flow of logistics substantially as it dramatically reduces the time it takes to load and unload a vehicle. There are also fuel savings to be made due to improved aerodynamics.

Our first prototype truck was purchase in late 2013. It was a 12 pallet 1988 Hino. It was affectionately known as the 1 to 1 model. We now have a newer 1 to 1 model, which is an 8 pallet Isuzu. This Vehicle is currently being used daily at my brothers factory in Campbellfield.

How Ramp Tech came to be: After completing my apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic with the Country Roads Board in the early 80s, I became involved with our family business, Polyweld. Polyweld manufactured above ground swimming pools. A large part of the swimming pool manufacturing process involves plastic welding of the swimming pool liners.

Soon Polyweld became involved in the manufacturing of truck curtains, generically known as Tautliners. For the larger part of the next 25 years I was part of the evolution of countless variations of truck curtain systems. Polyweld is a great melting pot of ideas and innovation.

Around 2010 a buckle free system became available. This new system was a great time saver for the truck drivers. When adjusting the tolerance on this style of curtain system, I noticed that:

If the truck curtain was adjusted to be tight, it would not flap when the vehicle was moving, but the down side was that the curtain was difficult to open.

If the truck curtain was adjusted loose enough to open easily, the down side was that the truck curtain would flap like crazy when traveling down the freeway.

It was around this time that my parents retired. I started playing around with different ideas in my workshop. I had the light bulb moment! The truck curtain track can be lifted by using a series of ramps. This enable the truck curtain to be tight when the vehicle is in transit and loose when the truck curtain is being opened.

I saw an opportunity to branch out on my own with the Ramp Tech system.

More than 10 years later, I now realise for this product to become properly commercialised I need to pass it on to an entirety that has more resources than I have.

There are 2 videos on display. The first is the Ramp Tech System and the second is a safety video on dealing with a curtain with buckles. I have chosen these 2 video to illustrate how much faster and simpler the Ramp Techs Load Rated, Buckle Free Truck Curtain System is.

Included in the sale of the business is the intellectual property which is held in Australia and New Zealand. The Patents are in the business name of Iona Automotive Pty Ltd

There is the option of an outright purchase, or the creation of a licensing agreement.

Regards, Douglas Donaldson.
